The Academy honored the memory of the Great Martyr Barbara

On December 16 and 17, the Academy held festive services at the Intercession Academic Church in honor of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara.

The Holy Great Martyr Barbara was born in Iliopolis in a noble pagan family. Her father Dioscorus was very fond of his only daughter and, in order to save the beautiful girl from the temptations of the world, he locked her in a tower of a castle. There, separated from the whole world, Barbara came to an idea that there is one true God, who created the universe and all living creatures.

Once the girl met local Christians, who told her about the Lord in whom she had already believed. The girl accepted Holy Baptism and from that time made a vow to the Lord to devote her whole life to Him. Soon Barbara's father found out about her faith. He brought his daughter to the city governor. The saint was cruelly tortured and persuaded to renounce Christ, but she was adamant and remained faithful. By order of the governor, her father beheaded St. Barbara.

Святая великомученица Варвара показала своей жизнью, что каждый человек может прийти к познанию истинного Бога вне зависимости от обстоятельств. Ведь через рассматривание видимых вещей и красоты мира человек может прийти к познанию Творца.
