Sunday services at the Intercession Academic Church
On October 9 and 10, the Moscow Theological Academy held Sunday services at the Intercession Academic Church.
During the Divine Liturgy, there was a passage from the Gospel of Luke telling how the Savior helped the fishermen to have a good catch and summoned apostles to become “fishers of men”.
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesuś knees, saying, «Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!» For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, «Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.» So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him (Luke 5: 8-11).
Having experienced the power of Jesus, Peter deeply felt his unworthiness and even asked the Lord to leave him. However, Christ summoned ordinary fishermen to become His helpers and participate in the salvation of people.
On October 9, Archimandrite Platon (Igumnov) headed the All-night vigil at the Intercession Academic Church.
Before reading Kathisma, Deacon Sergiy Lytkin, a 4th year undergraduate student, delivered a sermon.
A life for a Christian is the relation with God the Word and serving Him with all one's strength, thoughts, words and deeds. After all, without an active testimony of his faith, a person cannot achieve salvation, so cannot unite with Christ.
On October 10, Archimandrite Benedict (Knyazev) performed the Divine Liturgy co-served by teachers and students in the priesthood.
After singing the sacrament verse, Nikolai Malyuta, a 4th-year undergraduate student, ddelivered a sermon.
A Christian is a brave and fearless person. He is someone with a firm inner moral core. It is evident not only from manifesting his strong belief in salvation, but in efforts and deeds aimed at eradicating vices and sinful passions.
