Sunday services at the Intercession Academic Church

On January 23 and 24, the Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite, Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy, performed Sunday services at the Intercession Academic Church.

Today the Church honors the memory of St. Theodosius the Great. Since his childhood, he strove for an ascetic lifestyle and 30 years lived as a hermit in a Palestinian cave, where, according to a legend, Magi stayed for a night on their way to venerate the Divine Infant. Later, Theodosius established a cenobitic monastery with hospitals for monks and shelters for the elderly. St. Theodosius defended the Orthodox faith against Eutychios’s heresy and for that he was imprisoned during the reign of the emperor Anastasius. Theodosius the Great peacefully departed to the Lord at the age of 105.

You cultivated a barren desert with your tears, grew flourishing fruit with groaning and labors and became the luminary of the universe, shining with miracles, Theodosius, our father, pray to Christ God for the salvation of our souls».

On January 23, Archimandrite Hilarion (Porkavets) led the All-night Vigil at the Intercession Academic Church co-served by teachers and students in the priesthood.

On January 24, the Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy celebrated the Divine Liturgy.

After reading the Holy Gospel, Bishop Theodorite addressed an assembly with an archpastoral word.

Hieromonk Philophey (Artyushin) preached a sermon after the sacrament verse.

After the Divine Liturgy, the Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite greeted Hieromonk Dometian (Kurlanov), Senior assistant of the Vice-rector for educational work of the Moscow Theological Academy and Sacristan of the Intercession Academic Church, on the day of his heavenly patron saint St. Dometian, Bishop of Melitin, whose memory was celebrated the day before.
