The beginning of a new academic year celebrations at the Moscow Theological Academy

On September 1st, the first day of a new academic year, teachers and students of the Moscow Theological Academy gathered together at the Divine Liturgy and a prayer service at the academic church of the Intercession of Theotokos.

По окончании молебна ректор, преподаватели, студенты и сотрудники Академии пошли на праздничную трапезу. 

After the service, a festive meal took place in which the bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite, the MThA Rector, extended his best wishes to Honored Professor Konstantin Efimovich Skurat on his 91st birthday. After that, Michail Kovshov, Associate Professor of the Biblical Studies Department, read out some greeting letters from other educational institutions.

Following an old tradition, teachers and students lined up in a solemn procession went to the Trinity Cathedral for a prayer service before the relics of the founder of the monastery, St. Sergius of Radonezh. 

Archimandrite Jeremiah (Solovyov), the inhabitant of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra, addressed an assembly with some words of greeting and guidance. He wished everyone God's blessing and St. Sergius’s help in a new academic year.

Having finished the prayer at the Trinity Cathedral, the procession ranked on the steps of the Lavra's bell tower for a general photograph. The festive ceremony finished with a lity for deceased mentors at the academic cemetery officed by Hieromonk Vyacheslav (Sorokin), Vice-rector for educational work.
