The new of a student’s magazine "Vstrecha"

The Publishing House of the Moscow Theological Academy has released the forty-second issue of a student’s magazine “Vstrecha”, which has been published since 1996.

In the section "Spirit and Letter" there are articles dedicated to understanding the relationships between a form and the meaning, a thought and a word, Theology and Philology.

The issue opens with an article by Pavel Valerievich Gerasimov “Philology and Theology - ancilla or amica? On the question of the relationship between two branches of science”, in which the author creatively reformulated a medieval phrase "Philosophia ancilla theologiae est" (Philosophy is a servant of Theology).

Next article "The Word of St. Apostle Paul in N. V. Gogol’s Letters" by Vasily Smirnov examines the relationship between the Word of God and the word of a man using a particular example of the epistolary heritage of N. V. Gogol. The author concluded that an assimilation of a New Testament concept helped the writer to convey some key ascetic ideas to his readers.

The section ends with an article by Hegumen Melety (Sokolov), Associate Professor of the Moscow Theological Academy, "How to learn to speak and write well?", in which he formulated some basic principles necessary for mastering the public speech with a regard on years of his pedagogical experience.

"The Voice of the Old" section dedicated to pre-revolutionary journalism. There is an anonymous letter "Christian's View of the Modern Achievements of Enlightenment and Citizenship" published in the second issue of "Spiritual Conversation" in 1858. The letter is dedicated to some spiritual problems caused by scientific and technological progress.

The new section “To the End of the Earth” contains an interview with Archpriest Andrei Kordochkin, Dean of St. Mary Magdalene’s Church in Madrid, Secretary of the Spanish-Portuguese Diocese. Archpriest Andrei has been living in Spain for seventeen years. He tells about the current state of Orthodoxy Church there, as well as the project for the church glorification of some ancient Spanish saints.

The section dedicated to the 200th anniversary of F.M. Dostoevsky consists of two articles "Something personal about Fyodor Mikhailovich" by a teacher of the Academy Henrik Hansen and "Thirst for Truth and Law" by Alla Anatolyevna Novikova-Stroganova, Dr. of Philology, a member of the Writers' Union of Russia. Those articles describe a famous Russian writer from various sides, such as a hidden Christ’s apostle, a prosecutor of an inhuman system of state law, a preacher of the universal brotherhood and a "realist in its highest sense."

The section "Faces of the Academy: Research and Memories" includes biographies of famous teachers and mentors of the Academy like Holy Martyr Hilarion (Troitsky) and Metropolitan Filaret (Vakhromeev), Honorary Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, a former Rector and an honorary member of the Moscow Theological Academy.

At the end there are two small sections "Mockery in Words" (an explanation of difficult Church Slavonic words and phrases) and "Creativity" (students' poems).
