The Moscow Theological Academy honored the memory of St. Sergius of Radonezh

On October 8, the Holy Church honours the memory of St. Sergius, Hegumen of Radonezh and All Russia.

In 1392, St. Sergius finished his earthly life. Before his death, he received Holy Communion and peacefully passed to the Lord, Whom he had served all his life.

Twice a year, the Rector, students and staff of the Academy gather to glorify St. Sergius, Founder of the Holy Trinity Monastery and a saint patron of all pupils.

On October 7, Archimandrite Platon (Igumnov) officed the Akathist to St. Sergius at the Intercession Academic Church. The Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite officed an All-night vigil co-served by teachers and students in the priesthood.

Before reading Kathisma, Peter Shein, a 4th year undergraduate student, delivered a sermon.

During the All-night vigil, Bishop Theodorite elevated Sergei Lytkin, a 4th-year undergraduate student, into a rank of Subdeacon.

On October 8, Bishop Theodorite celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Intercession Academic Church co-served by the clergy of an academic church.

After reading the Gospel, the Rector addressed an assembly with his archpastoral word.

After the Eucharistic Canon, Bishop Theodorite ordained Subdeacon Sergius Lytkin into a Deacon.

Before Communion, Pavel Pushkarev, a 4th year undergraduate student, delivered a sermon:

What lesson does St. Sergius teach us? There is a number of examples. Firstly, there is a lesson in patience and love, prayer and obedience. What is especially important for us is absolute faith in all-good Providence of God.

At the end of the service, the Rector and academic clergy sang a glorification to St. Sergius.
