An awarding ceremony of students’ essays

On May 16, the summing up of the results and an awarding ceremony of the students’ essays winners took place at the Moscow Theological Academy. The annual competition started in 2020 and takes place as a part of the Orthodox Book Day. This time there were more than 40 participants from Tomsk, Yekaterinburg, Tambov, Vologda, Saratov, Anapa, Pokrov, Sergiev Posad and Moscow. S.V. Burmistrov, Associate Professor of the Philology Department at the Moscow theological Academy, opened the ceremony and she expressed her gratitude to the Rector Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite:

«Bishop Theodorite does all his best to create favorable conditions for students supporting various projects, which can reveal their creativity». 

Priest Pavel Lizgunov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, said a welcoming speech on behalf of the Rector. He thanked the participants for taking part in the academic event and noted that such projects not only develop their writing, but provide an opportunity to express their creativity, personal life experience and eternal values. He also emphasized that the Moscow Theological Academy offers topics to set students’ minds on such themes as faith, love, truth, etc.

In her greeting, S.V. Burmistrova thanked all the contestants for their deep knowledge of classical and modern Russian literature, non-trivial thoughts and original approaches to their essays. In addition, she thanked representatives of the Educational Committee, the Committee for Work with Universities and the Scientific Community under the Diocesan Council of Moscow. She expressed special gratitude to her colleagues and members of an expert group such as Archimandrite Simeon (Tomachinsky) and D.V. Makarov, who evaluated students’ works.

The list of winners:  

  • Sergei Konkov, a second-year student of the Moscow Theological Academy, took a first place. .
  • Maxim Glybchenko, a second-year student of the Vologda Theological Seminary, took a second pace, ..
  • Alina Potapenko, a first-year student of the Moscow Humanitarian and Economic University, took a third place ..

The jury members also noted thirteen essays in various categories:

"For remarkable literary skills" - Mikhail Vergizov, a third-year student of the Orenburg Theological Seminary;

"For the breadth of cultural horizons and knowledge" - Anastasia Ermolaevaa third-year student of the Saratov State University nabbed after N.G. Chernyshevsky;

"For outstanding knowledge of Russian literature" - Alexey Klinkova second-year student of the Tambov Theological Seminary;

"For sincerity and original way of writing" -Maria Kovtunova, a second-year student of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov;

"For the conceptual elaborating the topic" - Elizaveta Chvilyova,a third-year student of the Moscow State Regional University;

"For the musical interpretation of the theme" - Maria Karpova,a third-year student of the Russian Academy of Music by the Gnesins;

"For the faith in the transforming power of art" - Arseniy Moldagalieva third-year student of the Orenburg Theological Seminary, and Alina Korotaeva, a third-year student of the Moscow State Pedagogical University (Pokrovsky branch);

"For the original interpretation of the topic and fine style" - Dmitry Pantilimonov, a first-year student of the Orenburg Theological Seminary, and Vitaly Nabiev, a first-year student of the Orenburg Theological Seminary.

"For the best argumentation" - Vasily Smirnov, a fourth-year student of the Moscow Theological Academy, and Rodion Arslanov, a second-year student of the Moscow Theological Academy.

At the end of the meeting, E.V. Grudinina, Vice-rector for Scientific work of the Tambov Theological Seminary, thanked for the opportunity to participate in such a project and expressed her wish for the further co-working with the Moscow Theological Academy.
