The Academy hold festive events on the first day of a new academic year

On September 1, on the first day of a new academic year, teachers and students of the Moscow Theological Academy gathered to perform the Divine Liturgy at the Intercession Academic Church.

After the sacrament verse, Hieromonk Varnava (Losev), Dean of an academic church, read out congratulations sent by His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.

At the end of the service, the Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite, Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy, addressed an assembly with a speech on the beginning of a new school year.

At the end of a prayer service, Bishop Theodorite congratulated Konstantin E. Skurat, Honored Professor of the Moscow Theological Academy, on his 92nd birthday.

After that, teachers and students went on a procession to the Trinity Cathedral for a prayer service at the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh asking the blessing for a new academic year.

Archimandrite Jeremiah (Solovyov) greeted students on behalf of the Bishop of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov Thomas and the brethren of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius’s Lavra. He emphasized that time within the walls of the Lavra is the great mercy of God, which everyone has to cherish and appreciate, and wished all students the divine help in their studying and efforts.

After a prayer service at the Trinity Cathedral, the Rector, teachers and students had a group photo on the steps of a bell tower. Then Hieromonk Vyacheslav (Sorokin), Vice-rector for Educational work of the Moscow Theological Academy, officed a prayer service for the deceased mentors at the academic cemetery.

Today, the Academe also prayed for the Metropolitan of Ryazan and Kasimov Simon (Novikov), who passed away on the 1st September 15 years ago. For several years, he served as an Associate professor and an inspector at the Moscow Theological Academy.
