The Academy officed divine services in honour of St. Apostle John the Theologian and St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia
On October 8 and 9, the Moscow Theological Academy held divine services in honour of the Apostle John the Theologian and Saint Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.
St. Apostle John was especially loved by the Savior for his sacrificial love and purity. He did not part with the Lord and was one of three closest disciples of Christ.
"Apostle, beloved by Christ, hasten to deliver the unrequited people; accept those who fall, you who fell on Christ’s chest, pray to Him, the Theologian, and drive away the imminent darkness asking for peace and great mercy".
St. Tikhon became the first Russian Patriarch after a long Synodal period. Despite the persecution, he steadfastly carried out his archpastoral ministry.
“In difficult times, chosen by God, in his perfect holiness and love of God. We glorify you, in humility, greatness, simplicity and meekness you laid down your soul for the Church, for your people, St. Tikhon, the Patriarch and a confessor, pray to Christ God being crucified with Him and save the Russian land and your flock".
On October 8 and 9, Archimandrite Platon (Igumnov) led the All-night vigil and the Divine Liturgy at the Intercession Academic Church co-served by teachers and students in the priesthood.
After singing the sacrament verse, Gleb Osipov, a 4th-year undergraduate student, delivered a sermon.
Let us flee, dear brothers and sisters, from sin and strive for Holy Love, for Christ. In no case should we forget about love for each other as it is a true sign of love to the Lord. Let St. John the Theologian teach us true love and mercy, save and heal us from the evil.
