The Academy honored the memory of Hieromartyr Hilarion (Troitskiy)

The Moscow Theological Academy hold solemn services on the commemoration day of Hieromartyr Hilarion, Archbishop of Vereya.

The future Archbishop Hilarion, first name Vladimir, was born in a priestly family not far from Moscow. As an intelligent child he was successful in his studying and at the age of 24 graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy with PhD in Theology. After the graduation, he became a teacher at the theological school and took monastic vows.

He participated in the 1917-1918 Local Council and did everything that was possible from him to restore the Patriarchate. Also, the saint advocated the purity of the Orthodox faith and fought against Renovationism. He rejected all offers from authorities to cooperate and participate in the schism of the Church. Having survived many arrests, the martyr fell ill with typhus and died in a prison hospital.

In 1999, the relics of Hieromartyr Hilarion were found and laid at the Moscow Sretensky Monastery.

Today the Sretensky monastery rejoices, and greets a helper and an intercessor, Hilarion the Wonderful. Having glorified the monastery with your labors, you, St. Hilarion, banishes all heretics and theomachists. Be our guardian and a prayer instructing us to honor the Orthodox Holy Trinity. "

On December 27, Archimandrite Luka (Golovkov) led an all-night vigil at the Intercession Church of the Moscow Theological Academy.

On December 28, Archimandrite Benedict (Knyazev) celebrated the Divine Liturgy co-served by the clergy of the Academic Church.
