Round Table Dedicated To The Book Collection Of Abbot Kronid (Karev) Held

On May 29, a round table dedicated to the book collection of Abbot Kronid (Karev) was held in the Elizabethan Hall of the Moscow Theological Academy.

The event was organized by the MThA Library, the Academy's Museum of Church Art, and the Department of Philology.

Father Kronid considered the collection of manuscripts and early printed books to be an important task of his life. He managed to gather one of the largest private collections in Russia, numbering about 537 folios: 48 manuscripts and 489 books of Cyrillic printing from the 16th to the 20th centuries.

During the meeting, reports were presented regarding his collection, which is yet to be fully studied.

The round table was timed to coincide with an exhibition of books from Father Kronid's collection, which is currently taking place at the Museum of Church Art, and the presentation of a catalog.

A.V. Dadykin, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Head of the Manuscript Sector of the Research Library of Lomonosov Moscow State University, was a guest at the round table. Anton Vladimirovich presented the result of his many years of work - the catalog "West and South Russian Cyrillic Editions in the Collection of Abbot Kronid (Karev)". which includes descriptions of unique Cyrillic printed books from the 16th to 18th centuries published in Vilna, Kyiv, Lviv, and other cities. These editions can be viewed at the exhibition.

The round table was also attended by K.A. Vakh, General Director of the "Indrik" publishing house. He shared memories of his friendly communication with Father Kronid and the work on publishing the catalog.

Priest Kirill Prikhotko, an assistant at the Department of Philology, together with Sergey Madyanov, a student of the Master's program "Russian Spiritual Literature". presented an overview report titled "The Collection of Manuscripts and Early Printed Books of the Moscow Theological Academy Library: Research Prospects". The report reflected the main stages of the formation of the manuscript and early printed book collection at the MThA library, identified some sources of manuscript acquisitions, outlined prospects for training MThA students to work with manuscripts and printed books, provided an overview of Father Kronid's book collection, and showcased unique folios from his collection. Although the collection was only recently received by the MThA library, work on its study is already underway.

During the round table, a report by master's student Sergey Madyanov was presented, dedicated to the identification and reading of ownership and reader notes in Father Kronid's books.

Thus, prospects for training MThA students in research work with manuscripts and printed books were outlined.
