The MThA Rector Bishop Kirill of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov Kirill, led the seminar “Theology in the Digital Era”

On March 13, 2024, as part of the Peterhof Theological Club activity, a scientific and educational seminar “Theology in the Digital Era” took place at the St. Petersburg State University. The event was organized by the Theology Institute of the St. Petersburg State University and Scientific and Educational Theological Association supported by Moscow and St. Petersburg Theological Academies.The seminar was held in a mixed format and gathered at about 50 participants from various Russian universities. 

The Bishop of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov Kirill greeted the participants with a welcoming speech. The moderator was Professor D.V. Shmonin, Director at the Theology Institute of the St. Petersburg State University.

Associate Professor Archpriest Vladimir Shmaliy, PhD in Theology, Head of the laboratory of Philosophical Theology at the Philosophy Department of the National Research Nuclear University (MIFI), gave a report on “Artificial intelligence in theological research and education: prospects and problems”. 

The discussions engaged Director of the Higher School of Philosophy, History and Social Sciences of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Professor R.V. Svetlov; a member of the Synodal Committee on Bioethics, PhD in Theology, PhD in Biological Sciences, Associate Professor of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, Archpriest Konstantin Konstantinov; PhD in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of St. Petersburg State University G.V. Pavilainen. 

During the course of the discussion teachers, researchers, graduate students, undergraduates, and students of both secular and religious universities could participate in person and online. The materials of the seminar will be summarized. Also, and it has been decided to continue the work of the Peterhof Theological Club in the future.
