Students at the MThA Icon Painting and Church Art Faculty showed their works

On May 26 - 29, students of 1 to 5 years at the Faculty of Icon Painting and Church Art showed their icon painting works and embroidery.

First-year students demonstrated copies of icons and their fragments. The main task was to depict a figure using base painting techniques. Additionally, they presented such creative works as sketches and portraits.

The task for the second-year students was to continue mastering their art techniques by working in icon painting workshops and museums. They focused on the iconography of saints presenting their sketches.

Students practiced in the Museum of Christian Art of the Moscow Theological Academy "Church and Archaeological Cabinet" and museum collections in Suzdal, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Pskov, the Patriarchal Museum of Church Art in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Historical Museum, the Trinity Cathedral of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra.

On May 27 third-year students presented their works for the festive tier of the iconostasis in the Assumption Church in Matveevskoye, Moscow, copies were made in the Vologda and Kirillo-Belozersk museum-reserves, the Pskov Museum.

The preview of the works became a defense of diploma for third-year students. Those who pass to the second stage will continue to master icon painting in the 4th and 5th courses.

On May 29, fourth-year students presented their icons for the deesis tier of the iconostasis of the Assumption Church in Matveevskoye, Moscow, and an icon of St. Herman of Solovetsky in the local tier of the iconostasis of the Solovetsk Monastery.

For fifth-year students it was the pre-defense of their final works. Graduation works this year were images of the Savior, the Mother of God, festive icons like "Assumption of the Mother of God" and "Resurrection of Christ" ("Descent into Hell"), "Rejoices in You ...", an icon of St. Euphrosyn of Pskov and Archangel Michael with deeds.
