The Academy celebrated the Assumption of the Mother of God

Today we heard an extract from Apostle Paul’s speech addressing the Christian community of a Macedonian city of Philippa:

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus» (Phil. 2: 5).

Thus, the Apostle encourages them to follow the Savior’s example providing a righteous life of a Christian. However, as a human history shows, there was only the Mother of God, who honored to be placed above cherubim and seraphim.

With all her life St. Virgin Mary gave an example of the greatest humility and the faith in God.

On August 27, the Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite, Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy, officed the festive All-night Vigil co-served by the clergy of the Intercession Academic Church. During the service, Bishop Theodorite performed the rite of the Burial of the Mother of God and went on a procession of the cross.

According to the sacred tradition, on the third day after the death of the Mother of God St. Apostle Thomas came to Her tomb, rolled away the stone but did not find the body of the Holy Virgin. On that same evening, apostles heard angelic singing and saw the Most Holy Theotokos surrounded by heavenly powers, Who promised Her help to all faithful disciples of the Savior.

Having given birth you remained Virgin, in Your Assumption you did not leave the world, the Mother of God, you died for a life being the Mother of Life and Your prayers save our souls from death.

On August 28, Bishop Theodorite celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Intercession Academic Church co-served by teachers and students in the priesthood.

After reading the Gospel, the Rector addressed an assembly with his archpastoral word.

After singing the sacrament verse, Archimandrite Simeon (Tomachinsky) delivered a sermon.

At the end of the service, Bishop Theodorite and the academic clergy performed the glorification to the Most Holy Theotokos.
