The new issue of "Bible and Christian Antiquity" journal

The Center of Patristic and Christian Antiquity Research at the Moscow Theological Academy released the eighth issue of a journal "Bible and Christian Antiquity” (#4 in 2020).

The journal consists of sixteen publications:

Patrology: T.A. Shchukin “To Whom Do Angels Serve? The teaching of John Philopon on the angelic world in a context of the Christological polemic of the mid-6th century ”;
Byzantine studies: the second part of D.I. Makarova’s article “Antipalamism in the early works of H.-G. Beck: Russian origins and Catholic parallels ”;
Biblical Criticism: A.V. Lavrent'ev "Criticism of the Documentary Hypothesis and the Problem of the Origin of the Pentateuch in the Theoretical Developments of Rolf Rendtorff";
The Bible and Historical Events: Archimandrite Sergius (Akimov) "The Palestinian campaign of the Egyptian Pharaoh Susakim in the Bible and extra-biblical sources."

An isosyllabic reconstruction of Jesus Christ’s speech about the Law of Moses from the Sermon on the Mount and the parable of the Last Judgment is firstly published in “The Experience of Reconstructing the Isosyllabic Poetry of the New Testament” (part 1) by Archpriest Leonid Grilikhes.

Also, there are some first translations into Russian:

"Preface to the Interpretation of the Psalms" by Diodorus of Tarsus (fragment), translation from Ancient Greek, an introductory article and comments by E.A. Zabolotny;
"Explanation of some provisions from the Epistle to the Romans" by Blessed Augustine of Hippon, part II, translation from Latin, introductory article and comments by V.M. Tyulenev.

The section "Notes and Bibliographic Reviews" contains a report on a personal ascetic experience of the monk Barsauma. D.F. Bumazhnova “The Starry Sky of the Monk Barsauma. An individual covenant with God and the origins of pillar-dwelling”. There are two more reviews by I.S. Vevurko "Bulletin" (BIOSCS) on the study of the Septuagint for 1979-1989 and E.V. Kolodny "Review of key commentaries on the Epistle to the Hebrews (mid-19th – 21st centuries)".

The fourth section includes five reviews:

K.V. Neklyudov analyzed S. Ince's dissertation “Kulturelle Veränderungen in Galiläa in der hellenistischen und frührömischen Zeit. Kamen: Hartmut Spenner ”on the cultural and ethnic dynamics of Galilee in Persian, Hellenistic and early Roman periods of its history;
Deacon Nikolai Shablevsky presented a critical review of the 14th issue (2016) of the “Aramaic Studies” journal
Priest Alexy Volchkov gave an expert assessment of a monograph by V.A. Alikina “History and Practice of Congregations in the Early Church”;
I.S. Vevurko analyzed K.G. Kudryavtseva’s study“ The Wife Clothed in the Sun ”: the Origin of the Image”;
A.A. Savinov presented a review on a Russian translation of J. Agamben’s publication "Time Remaining: Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans."

In the section "Chronicle and review of scientific events and conferences" M.G. Kalinin published a report on the scientific-practical conference "Semantics of grammatical markers in Semitic languages and approaches to its description", held in Berlin on February 13-14, 2020. Deacon Nikolai Shablevsky made a review of candidate dissertations defensed at the Moscow Theological Academy during 2018-2020.
