Sunday services at the Intercession Academic Church
On August 7, the eighth Sunday after Pentecost, the Church commemorates the Assumption of St. righteous Anna, a grandmother of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Two apocryphal texts, The Proto-Gospel of James and The Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew, describe the life of St. Anna and her husband, St. righteous Joachim. The main idea is to bring the reader to the event of the birth of Virgin Mary, Who gave birth to Christ.
There was no more information about their lives after the righteous parents brought the Blessed Virgin to the Temple. However, the Church commemorates their names calling them the God-fathers as they were parents of Jesus’s mother. The life of Sts. righteous Joachim and Anna acquires special significance and incomparable value in the eyes of a Christian. Thanks to their faith and attitude the Incarnation of the Savior was possible.
On August 6, Archimandrite Hilarion (Forkavets) led the All-night Vigil at the Intercession Academic Church co-served by teachers and students in the priesthood. On Sunday, Archimandrite Hilarion performed the Divine Liturgy.
After to the Sacrament verse, Priest Alexy Kotelnikov, Head of the MThA additional education department, delivered a sermon.
