Sunday services on the Week of the Publican and the Pharisee
In spring the Church of Christ begins to prepare for the Lent. Today, chants and prayers of the Lenten Triodion recalls two characters from the Gospel parable of the publican and the Pharisee. In each of them a Christian can recognize himself at different periods of his life. Their images reflect a person’s inner world and a relationship with God in prayer.
Before the Holy Pentecost, every Christian can look at himself through the images of the publican and the Pharisee and examine his soul.
On February 24, Archimandrite Platon (Igumnov) officiated an All-Night Vigil at the Intercession Academic Church co-served by the academic clergy.
Before the Kathisma, Maxim Zuev, a fourth-year undergraduate student, delivered a sermon:
Divine justification is always opposed to human self-justification. A person is afraid to admit his mistakes, because telling the truth means to see who you really are. So, the truth that a person can achieve is very unsightly. It turns out that the person is worse than other people around him. In this case, it becomes extremely difficult to condemn others. That state is the main Christian virtue, humility".
On February 25, Archimandrite Platon celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Intercession Academic Church co-served by the academic clergy.
