A new graphic exhibition opened at the Museum of Christian Art of the Moscow Theological Academy
On October 31, 2023, a new temporary exhibition “From the Forgotten... Historical Moscow in the drawings of Vladimir Orlov” opened at the Museum of Christian Art «Church and Archeological Cabinet» of the Moscow Theological Academy.
These pictures invite guests on a journey through the historical images of the capital of Russia. Vladimir Georgievich Orlov, a little-known Moscow artist, was a teacher of the Stroganov School in the first half of the XX century.
At the grand opening, Anton S. Novikov, a director of the museum, greeted guests and thanked for their interest in the work of this unfairly forgotten artist. He also noted the role of the museum staff who created the exhibition.
Art critic Oksana Iv. Zaritskaya, a curator of the exhibition, selected more than 40 drawings created by V. Orlov. Each of them conveys the atmosphere of historical Moscow from different eras, its well-known streets, buildings, monuments and churches, guiding viewers into the past and showing how Moscow has changed over the centuries.
Numerous guests who attended the opening of the exhibition were interested in studying the magnificent detail, as well as the skillful play of light and shadow in the drawings.
“For Orlov, Moscow is in its architecture and citizens. Therefore, we supplemented the exhibition with rarely shown items from the collections related to the life and habits of Moscow people. I would like you to look at the works of Vladimir Orlov with curiosity. I wish you look at the architecture and pay attention to people depicted to feel that ancient noisy and busy city, which admired various foreign travelers. — обратилась к посетителям Оксана Ивановна.
The exhibition is available at the Museum of Christian Art of the Moscow Theological Academy until the end of January 2024.
We are looking forward to taking you on a fascinating and educational journey through Vladimir Orlov’s historical drawings.
