MThA Concludes Bachelor's Entrance Exams

From July 7 to 11, the Moscow Theological Academy held entrance exams for applicants to the full-time bachelor's degree program in theology.

The entrance examinations consisted of a comprehensive exam covering a range of subjects, including Biblical History, fundamentals of faith, and liturgical rubrics. 

The members of the commissions that administered the comprehensive exam were: 

  • Hieromonk Varnava (Losev), professor
  • Hieromonk Feodor (Yulaev), professor
  • Archpriest Sergey Zabelich, professor
  • I.A. Myachin, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Pastoral Studies
  • Hieromonk Feodosy (Makarov), MThA individual mentor
  • Deacon Alexander Leventsov, assistant professor of the Department of Biblical Studies
  • S.V. Sanayants, assistant professor of the Department of Theology
  • R.I. Shilkin, assistant professor of the Department of Theology
  • I.S. Ryazanov, assistant professor of the Department of Church History
  • V.P. Vashchaev, assistant professor of the Department of Church History
  • P.V. Abelentsev, assistant professor of the Department of Biblical Studies 

In addition to the comprehensive exams, foreign applicants and those without Unified State Exam results took a Russian language essay and a Russian history test. 

The two examination commissions for these subjects included: 

  • P.E. Lipovetsky, docent
  • L.V. Prokhorenko, professor
  • K.A. Cherepennikov, professor
  • K.N. Malakaev, professor
  • P.V. Ostrovsky, assistant professor of the Department of Philology
  • K.A. Shemanaev, assistant professor of the Department of Church History 

Furthermore, applicants were interviewed by representatives of the administration:

  • Priest Pavel Lizgunov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs
  • I.A. Myachin, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Pastoral Studies
  • Igumen Daniel (Vasilenko), Vice-Rector for Educational Work
  • S.V. Badukin, Assistant to the Vice-Rector for Educational Work

Applicants also underwent an audition. The choirmasters of the Academy and the Lavra evaluated the vocal abilities of the applicants to enroll them in their choirs. The audition commission members included:

  • Hieromonk Nestor (Volkov), choirmaster of the Lavra choir
  • Hieromonk Zinovy (Bubyakin), choirmaster of the Znamenny choir
  • E.V. Borovinsky, choirmaster of the First Academic Choir
  • Deacon Alexander Leventsov, choirmaster of the Second Academic Choir
  • A.A. Antonova, choirmaster of the mixed choir

Applicants' mornings began with prayer at the Liturgy in the Intercession Academic Church, followed by breakfast. After that, they proceeded to their exams, interviews, and auditions.

On July 11, the results of the entrance exams were announced in the Great Hall of the MThA. This was followed by a meeting between the applicants and representatives from the Kolomna, Perervina, and Nikolo-Ugreshsky Theological Seminaries.
