A meeting of the Dissertation Council No. 2
On September 30, a regular meeting of the Dissertation Council No. 2 took place at the Moscow Theological Academy. The Council includes such departments as Church History, Church Practical Disciplines, Philology (Slavic languages), History and Theory of Church Art. At the meeting two candidate dissertations were defended. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was held remotely.

Priest Pyotr Panov presented a dissertation on "Church-state relations in the Orenburg (Chkalovsk) diocese in 1943-1991". Official opponents of the work were protodeacon Alexy Podmaritsyn, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Head of the Department of Church History at the Samara Theological Seminary, and D.A. Safonov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of History at Orenburg State University. The candidate successfully answered to questions and comments from his opponents and members of the Dissertation Council. After a discussion and a secret ballot the Dissertation Council decided to petition His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to award priest Peter Panov with the PhD in Theology.
Priest Vitaly Gulyaev successfully defended his thesis on "History of the Novosibirsk Diocese (1924-1988)". Official opponents were V.G. Ryzhenko, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Russian History and Political Science of Omsk State University named after F.M. Dostoevsky, and L.I. Dremova, PhD in Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Institute of History, Humanitarian and Social Education of the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University. The candidate The applicant responded to questions from his opponents and members of the Dissertation Council. After a discussion and a secret ballot the Dissertation Council decided to petition His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to award priest Vitaly the PhD degree in Theology.
Unfortunately, Lyudmila Ivanovna Dremova passed away three days before the defense of the thesis. The members of the Dissertation Council honored her memory by a prayer.
