Festive services on the Day of the Holy Spirit

Next day after the Holy Pentecost is dedicated to the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity.

St. John Chrysostom said:

The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter because He comforts people not like a second one after God, but as God, because consolation is one of the features of God».

The Church established the holiday to contradict the heresy, which denied deity of the Holy Spirit and His consubstantiality with God the Father and God the Son.

On June 20, Archimandrite Platon (Igumnov) officed an evening service at the Intercession Church of the Moscow Theological Academy.

On June 21, the Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite celebrated the Divine Liturgy.

At the antiphons, Bishop Theodorite tonsured third-year undergraduate students Vasily Veretennikov, Ioann Kizyun, Sergei Konoval and Yuri Grebenshchikov as Readers. Then the Rector elevated Reader Evgeny Smirnov, a fourth-year undergraduate student, to the rank of a subdeacon.

After reading the Holy Gospel, Bishop Theodorite addressed an assembly with his archpastoral word.

After singing the Cherubic song, Bishop Theodorite ordained Deacon Alexander Frantishchik, a fourth-year undergraduate student, into a presbyter.

At the end of the Eucharistic Canon, Bishop Theodorite ordained Subdeacon Evgeny Smirnov into a deacon.

Before taking out the Holy Chalice, Hieromonk Thaddeus (Pryadun) delivered a sermon.
