The Academy held Sunday services on the day of St. Prophet Hosea and St. Martyr Andrew of Crete

On October 30, the 20th Week after Pentecost, the Holy Church commemorates two saints who preached the word of God. St. Prophet Hosea and St. Martyr Andrew of Crete were from different eras.

St. Prophet Hosea (IX century BC) lived Israel foreshadowing the coming punishments because people had turned off from God and worshiped idols. The prophet told the Israelites about their guilt and the coming future.

Following the right path of Your Lord’s commandments, St. Prophet Hosea, you were filled with Holy Spirit and got the gift of prophecy, proclaiming to Israel Christ, who comes in years of the coming, taking sinful people from the wrong path and guiding them on the path to the Heavenly Jerusalem, where you are now standing up and praying endlessly for all of us.

St. Martyr Andrew of Crete lived during the reign of emperor Constantine Copronimos (741–775). Under the threat of death, the iconoclast ordered Christians to remove icons from churches and houses. Despite that, St. Andrew came to Constantinople and in St. Mamant’s church publicly denounced the heretic emperor. Later, he accepted a martyr's death.

Fasting on the mountain, you defeated the enemies by the full armor of the Cross, the blessed, you are bravely dressed in suffering, killing Copronymus with a sword of faith, and for the sake of both you were crowned by God, St. martyr ever-memorable Andrew.
