The Academy honored Sts Peter and Fevronia of Murom

Today the Holy Church commemorates the transfer of the relics of Prince Peter (a monastic name David) and Princess Fevronia (a monastic Euphrosyne), the Wonderworkers of Murom.

That saint couple showed us an example of an ideal married life in love and devotion. That is why Sts Peter and Fevronia are considered to be patrons of Christian marriage.

The Lord brought them together in an amazing way. Prince Peter’s brother was dangerously sick. To find a doctor he went to the Ryazan lands, where he met Fevronia. The girl agreed to heal the prince on the condition that he would become her husband. After the recovery, Peter kept his promise and took Fevronia as his wife.

During their earthly life, the couple showed incredible devotion to each other. According to a pious custom, the couple took monastic vows before their death. After that, they became David and Euphrosyne. Saints Peter and Fevronia died on the same day. They bequeathed to put them in one coffin, which they had prepared for themselves beforehand. To this day, the relics of the Wonderworkers of Murom rest in the same shrine.
