The Academy celebrated the memory of St. Sergius of Radonezh

Today the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the memory of St. Sergius of Radonezh. On September 25, 1392, the great Hegumen of the Russian land departed to the Lord.

Do not grieve, my children! I go to God who calls me, and I entrust you to the Almighty Lord and His Virgin Mother. She will be your refuge and a wall from the enemies’ arrows”», — consoled his disciples Abba Sergius.

Before the departure of his soul, the monk wished to receive the Communion for the last time. Then he let his spirit go, and a sweet fragrance spread throughout the room.

Since then the inhabitants of the Holy Trinity-Sergius Lavra, students of the Moscow Theological Academy and all the worshipers glorify this great saint of God with the following words:

Imitating Christ, you voluntarily humbled for our sake to the image of a slave, you loved humility and through constant vigilance and prayers, destructed passions and ascended on the mountain of dispassion, Our Reverend Sergius».

On October 7, the Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite, Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy, performed an akathist and an all-night vigil to the St. Sergius at the Academic Intercession Church.

On October 8, Bishop Theodorite celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Academic Church. After reading the Gospel, he addressed an assembly with a sermon. Bishop Theodorite explained what a Christian should do in order to experience the state of humility as St. Sergius of Radonezh did.

At the end of the service, the Rector together with the clergy of the Intercession Church, performed a doxology to St. Sergius and congratulated the parishioners.

Chanting was performed by a male choir led by Hieromonk Nestor (Volkov) and a female choir under the conduct of Ksenia Tarelkina.
