The Academy commemorated the 16th death anniversary of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II

His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II cared much about theological education in Russia. He encouraged students of theological schools to appreciate the time and use all their opportunities to connect their lives with the service of the Church.

“I urge students of theological educational institutions to cherish the opportunity to receive a high-quality theological education, to value it and use the time given to gain the knowledge that is necessary for subsequent service in the church field,” said His Holiness Patriarch Alexy in his speech at the annual event at the Moscow Theological Academy in 2003.

More than twenty years later, these words sound like a testament to the present and future generations of Academy students.

On December 5, on the 16th death anniversary of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II, the academic family performed a common funeral prayer.

The lithia for the ever-remembered Patriarch Alexy was led by Archimandrite Hilarion (Forkavets), Confessor of the Academy, co-celebrated by hieromonks Theodosius (Makarov), John (Merzlyakov) and Hierodeacon Vladimir (Khachapuridze).
