Representatives of the Coptic Church visited the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra and the Moscow Theological Academy
On August 25 and 26, at the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill, a delegation of abbots and brethren from the Egyptian monasteries of the Coptic Church visited the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra and the Moscow Theological Academy. The delegation was headed by Bishop Dioscorus, Abbot St. John Kolov’s monastery in El Alamein (Egyptian province of Matruh).
On the first day, the Bishop of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov Kirill, Abbot of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra and Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy, welcomed guests at the Trinity Cathedral. The delegation of Egyptian monks venerated the relics of St. Sergius and Nikon of Radonezh and the relics kept in the Serapion’s Chamber.
The next day, the guests went on a sightseeing tour round the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra and saw its churches and a bell tower, learned about the history of the monastery and its modern life.
Then the Coptic delegation visited the Moscow Theological Academy. Hieromonk Damian (Voronov) told about the educational process and students’ life, showed classrooms, an assembly hall, students’ canteen, a rector's reception room, the Intercession Academic Church and the Christian Art Museum «Church and Archaeological Cabinet».
