MThA Scientific Council Holds First Meeting of the Year

On September 10, 2025, the first meeting of the Academy's Scientific and Methodological Council (SMC) in the new academic year was held.

Opening the session, the Chairman of the SMC, Archpriest Alexander Zadornov, briefly spoke about the Council's plans for the year and presented a proposal for scientific events scheduled for 2026. These events are dedicated to several significant anniversaries and commemorative dates, including: 

• The 1575th anniversary of the Fourth Ecumenical Council;
• The 1200th anniversary of the repose of St. Theodore the Studite; 
• The 700th anniversary of the repose of St. Peter, Metropolitan of Kiev, Moscow, and All Russia;
• The 190th anniversary of the birth of St. Nicholas of Japan, Equal-to-the-Apostles.

Furthermore, 2026 marks the 80th anniversary of the restoration of monastic life in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra and the return of the Moscow Theological Academy to its premises. These milestones will serve as the central theme for the annual academic Pokrov (Intercession) Conference.
