Defense of the Ph.D. thesis

On September 28, 2023, there was a regular meeting of the Dissertation Council No. 2 of the Moscow Theological Academy. The Council unites departments of Church History, Church Practical Disciplines, Philology, History and Theory of Church Art. Priest Artemy Kovalev successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis on “The status of the Orthodox clergy according to the legislation of the synodal and modern eras of the Russian Orthodox Church.”

The work was carried out under the scientific supervision of Archpriest Alexander Zadornov, Head of the department of Church Practical Disciplines. 

The official opponents were Archpriest Alexy Marchenko, Dr. of Historical Sciences, and Ekaterina V. Kiseleva, Ph.D of Legal Sciences.

The candidate successfully responded to his opponents’ comments and questions from members of the Dissertation Council. 

As a result, the Council decided to petition His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill to award Priest Artemy Kovalev the degree of Ph.D in Theology.
