Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy took part in the first meeting of the editorial board of the «Theological Works» journal

On March 28, 2023, the Bishop of Zvenigorod Kirill, Rector of the rector of the Moscow Theological Academy, took part in first meeting of the new editorial board for the scientific and theological journal «Theological Works», which took place at the conference hall of the Moscow Patriarchy Publishing House.

Nowadays, the journal is the oldest and the most authoritative scientific and theological publication. Its first issue was published in 1960. The journal was created to present the results of scientific works carried out in theological educational institutions of the Russian Orthodox Church. More than fifty issues have been released for over sixty years of its history. The editorial board of the journal was headed by the Metropolitan of Volokolamsk and Yuryevsk Pitirim, Chairman of the Publishing Council; the Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk Filaret, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus; the Metropolitan of Volokolamsk Hilarion, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations.

In November 2022, His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill approved the new editorial board headed by the Bishop of Istra Seraphim, Dr. of Theology. The board gathers heads and representatives of the Educational Committee, the Publishing House of the Moscow Patriarchate and the Orthodox Encyclopedia Center, rectors and teachers of the leading higher theological educational institutions of the Russian Orthodox Church and advisers to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus'.

The meeting was chaired by the Bishop of Istra Seraphim, Head of the editorial board. There were the Bishop Balashikha and Orekhovo-Zuevo Nikolay, an editor-in-chief of the Publishing House of the Moscow Patriarchate; the Bishop of Zvenigorod Kirill, Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy; Archpriest Maxim Kozlov, Chairman of the Educational Committee, Rector of the General Church Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies named after Sts Cyril and Methodius; Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, an advisor to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', etc.

In his speech, Bishop Seraphim recalled the journal history and its important role for the church science. He also touched upon main issues related to its further development. This year, the «Theological Works» journal will be included in the RSCI, and each publication will receive a digital DOI identifier.  

The Bishop of Balashikha and Orekhovo-Zuevo Nikolay, Editor-in-Chief of the Publishing House of the Moscow Patriarchate, gave a report on recent years publishing experience of the journal.

M.M. Bernatsky, a scientific editor of the journal, gave a report on current results and spoke about prospects for next 51st issue.

According to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill’s resolution, a discussion involved leading higher theological educational institutions and chief editors of the «Theological Works» journal.
