The MThA Rector Bishop Kirill was appointed as the Bishop of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov, Abbot of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra

On August 24, 2023 in the Holy Governing Synod in St. Petersburg, His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus' Kirill headed a regular meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.

During the meeting, the Holy Synod decided (Journal No. 54) the Bishop of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov Thomas to be the Bishop of Pokrovsk and Novouzensk, with his release from the administration of the Sergiev Posad Diocese, the position of Abbot of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra and a chairman of the Russian Orthodox Church Committee for the development of pilgrimage and bringing shrines.

The Bishop of Zvenigorod Kirill was appointed as the Bishop of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov, Abbot of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra, Vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', with the retention of his position as the Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy.
