The MThA representative took part in a plenary meeting of the Synodal Committee on Bioethics

On September 30, the Bishop of Peterhof Siluan chaired at the first plenary meeting of the Synodal Committee on Bioethics held at the Sretenskaya Theological Academy. The session were held in a blended format.

At the meeting, the Committee discussed some current issues and plans for the near future. They took into consideration a report made by a working group on the draft document "Ethical problems associated with the method of in vitro fertilization" by the Inter-Council Presence.

As a result, it was agreed to create a number of working groups to research some key bioethical issues of the day.

Archpriest Oleg Mumrikov, Head of the Biblical Studies Department at the Moscow Theological Academy, presented the achievements of a working group on the draft document "The Attitude of the Russian Orthodox Church to In Vitro Fertilization" by the Inter-Council Presence.

The Synodal Committee on Bioethics was created on April 13, 2021 by the Holy Synod’s decision (journal No. 15). The regulations on the Synodal Committee on Bioethics and its composition approved by the decision of the Holy Synod on June 17, 2021 (journal No. 44).

The main aim the Committee is to study "bioethical issues from the Orthodox doctrine point of view appealing to specialists of different spheres of knowledge".
