A round table "From the educational experience of the Icon-painting and Church Art Faculty of the Moscow Theological Academy on preparing icon painters”

 On May 25, the Educational Committee of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Icon Painting Faculty of the Moscow Theological academy organized a round table "From the educational experience of the Icon Painting and Church Art Faculty of the Moscow Theological Academy on preparing icon painters." The event took place at the Elizabethan Hall of the Academy.

There were 17 participants including Heads of icon painting departments, directors of study and teachers from nine theological educational institutions such as the Moscow Theological Academy, Voronezh, Don, Kazan, Kursk, Saransk, Perm, Tobolsk Theological Seminaries and the Kaluga Theological School. 

Archimandrite Luka (Golovkov), Dean of the MThs Icon-painting and Church Art Faculty, and N. V. Leontyeva, Head of the Control and Analytic Department at the Educational Committee, opened the event on behalf of Archpriest Maxim Kozlov, Chairman of the Educational Committee, and the Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite, Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy.

Archimandrite Luka (Golovkov) shared the educational experience of the MThA Icon-painting School on training future icon painters and took the guests on a guided tour round academic classrooms and workshops. 

Background information:

The Icon-painting faculty of the Moscow Theological Academy is the base platform for the icon-painting education. The Educational Committee together with the Icon Painting School of the Moscow Theological Academy is implementing a grant project supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives in 2022-2023. Its main aim is to improve icon painting education in theological educational institutions of the Russian Orthodox Church.
