Oleg Suhanov gave a report at the conference on religious education and sport

On November 15 th Oleg Suhanov, Moscow Theological Academy teacher and a member of the Russian Orthodox Church Academic Council, took part in an inter-regional theoretical and practical conference “Orthodox religious education, physical education and sport”.

During the conference representatives of different institutions discussed the importance of close cooperation between Russian Orthodox Church, government authorities, sports organisations while implementing sports skills into educational process of ecclesiastical schools. There were also a number of speeches made by priests who work with sporting communities and teachers of ecclesiastical, sporting and pedagogical universities. 

Oleg Suhanov gave a report on “Physical education in Russian Orthodox Church ecclesiastical schools: challenges and prospects”.

Issues raised at the conference triggered the liveliest discussion afterwards.

On November 12 th the conference continued in Moscow social-pedagogical university as a part of an extension course for sport teachers at Russian Orthodox Church seminaries.

Background information: 

The conference was organised by the Russian Patriarchate Physical Education and Sport Council and the Moscow Social-Pedagogical University. 

The officials taking part in the opening ceremony were hegumen Iaonn, Rector of Nicola-Ugresh Theological Seminary, the metropolitan of Murmansk and Monchegorsk Mitrophan, Chairman of the Russian Patriarchate Physical Education and Sport Council; Tatiana Kravchuk, Deputy-Minister for physical education and sport in Moscow region; Oleg Suhanov, Member of the Russian Orthodox Church Academic Council, who read the greeting word from archpriest Maxim Kozlov, Committee Chairman.

The officials greeting the assembly were Dmitriy Melnikov, Rector of Moscow Social- Pedagogical University; Maria Leontyeva, Vice-Rector for science and innovation activity of the Russian State University of Physical Culture, Youth and Tourism; Alexey Bazshenov, Vice-Rector for security, physical and educational work of Moscow State Academy of Physical Culture; Nikolay Minaev, Deputy-Chairman of Dzerzshinsk city administration, Chief of the educational development and branches of social welfare Office.
