During the session of Dissertation Council #2 two candidates defended their candidates dissertations.

On November 14 th the regular meeting of Dissertation Council #2 took place in the Moscow Theological Academy. The Council includes the Church History department, Church-practical department, Philology (Slavic languages) and the department of History and Theory of Church Art. Archpriest Victor Lisyunin and hieromonk Iosif (Korolyov) defended their candidate dissertations.

Archpriest Victor Lisyunin submitted his candidate thesis «The regeneration of Tombov diocese under the governance of St.Luke (Voyno-Yasenetskiy) based on the archival state, institutional and private materials”. The official opponents were: 

  • Tatiana Leontyeva, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Head of Russian History department of the Tver State university;
  • Vladimir Pertsev, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of Philosophy and Humanitarian disciplines of the Voronezsh State Medical Academy.

The candidate answered all the opponent’s questions and Council inquiry. As a result of the debates the Council decided to apply to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill for awarding archpriest Victor Lisyunin PhD degree in Theology.

Hieromonk Iosif submitted his candidate thesis «The history of Saint Paphnutiy of Borov monastery in XV-XVII centuries”. The official opponents were: 

  • Dmitriy Volodihin, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of History department of the Moscow State University;
  • Archpriest Gleb Tsvirkunov, PhD of Theology, Lecturer of Church History department of the Perervin Theological seminary.

Hieromonk Iosif successfully gave answers to all the opponent’s remarks and Council inquiry. As a result of the debates the Council also decided to apply to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill for awarding hieromonk Iosif PhD degree in Theology.

According to the schedule the next session of Dissertation Council is on December 12 th .
