The MThA Church History Department hold a seminar dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Russian Orthodox Church Council
On November 11, the Church History Department of the Moscow Theological Academy hold an online seminar dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, which took place at the Holy Trinity- St. Sergius Lavra in 1971 and was famous for electing Patriarch Pimen (Izvekov).
The seminar gathered graduate and postgraduate students, as well as teachers of the department. Professor Alexei Konstantinovich Svetozarsky made a report on the history of the 1971 Local Council.
George Ev. Kolyvanov, the MThA Associate Professor, recalled a life and work of Archimandrite Peter (Semyonov), who was a spiritual father of Patriarch Alexy I (Simansky) and died in 1971.
Ivan Ev. Kozhevnikov, a moderator of the seminar and a senior lecturer of the Moscow Theological Academy, introduced a newsreel footage, which captured participants of the Local Council.
All reports awoke a keen interest and raised a lively discussion at the end of the seminar.
