An online meeting of the Department of Biblical Studies

On October 19, an online meeting of the Department of Biblical Studies at the Moscow Theological Academy took part via Zoom. It was chaired by Archpriest Oleg Mumrikov, Associate Professor and Acting Head of the Department of Biblical Studies. 

First of all, participants expressed their deep gratitude to Associate Professor Archpriest Georgy Klimov for his duties as the Head of the Department which he carried for five years.

The main issue on the agenda considered topics of candidate and master's thesis, as well as bachelor's and term papers. The participants also summed up the results of the Biblical sections, which took part in the framework of the Intercession academic conference. As a result, section 3 proposed a topic for the next scientific seminar scheduled for October 28, 2020 on the Zoom platform. The theme is “The relationship between the Divine and the human in the Holy Scriptures. How is Orthodox Church Biblical Studies possible? Representatives of the Moscow Theological Academy, St. Petersburg Theological Academy, Kiev Theological Academy, St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Humanitarian University, the Russian State Social University as well as postgraduate students are expected to take part in a forthcoming seminar. 

The section on the exegetical heritage of Blessed Jerome of Stridonsky gets its continuation in the joint international conference of the MThA Department of Biblical Studies and RSSU "Blessed Jerome of Stridon - Teacher of the East and West" scheduled for December 7 and 8, 2020. It is dedicated to the 1600th anniversary of the death of Blessed Jerome of Stridon (Sophronius Eusebius Hieronymus; 342, Stridon, Dalmatia - September 30, 420, Bethlehem), who was an outstanding thinker of antiquity, a Bible translator into Latin (Biblia Sacra Vulgata) and a translators’ patron saint.

A student conference of the Department of Biblical Studies, which welcomes students of both theological and state institutions, takes place on November 5. Archpriest Oleg Mumrikov also announced an invitation to participate in the annual theological conference organised by St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Humanitarian University. The meeting ended with a joint prayer.
