The Moscow Theological Academy held a funeral service of Associate Professor Anatoly Alekseevich Matveev

On August 1, 2023, on the memory day of St. Seraphim of Sarov, the Academy held a funeral service of Associate Professor Anatoly Alekseevich Matveev, who had worked at the Moscow theological schools for 50 years. 

On August 31, the coffin was installed at the Intercession Academic Church. Hieromonk Barnabas (Losev), Dean of the Intercession Academic Church, performed a prayer service for the deceased.

On August 1, after the Divine Liturgy, Archimandrite Hilarion (Forkavets) led a funeral service co-served by the academic clergy. Relatives, teachers, students and graduates of the Moscow theological Academy, friends and colleagues of the deceased prayed at the Intercession Academic Church. 

Anatoly Alekseevich was buried at the Annunciation Cemetery in Sergiev Posad, on a land of the Moscow Theological Academy.

Anatoly Alekseevich Matveev was born on January 28, 1942.

In 1959 he graduated from high school in Moscow. In 1960–1962 studied at the Moscow Higher Technical School. N.E. Bauman.

In 1963–1967 studied at the Moscow Theological Seminary.

In 1967 he entered the Moscow Theological Academy, graduated in 1971 with a Ph.D. degree defending the thesis “John of Damascus on the Lord's feasts (theological and philological analysis)”.

In 1971–1973 - professor's fellow at the department of Ancient Greek.

Since 1973 - a teacher of Ancient Greek at the Moscow Theological Seminary.

In 1974 - an employee of the library at the Moscow Theological Academy.

In the 1975/1976 academic year, he taught general Church History in the 4th grade; since 1977 - Church Slavonic in the 1st grade of the seminary.

In the 1979/1980 academic year, he worked in the inspection of the Moscow Theological Academy and Seminary.

March 26, 2008 by the decision of the MThA Academic Council Anatoly Matveev was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor.
