On February 2, 2021, at the invitation of the Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite, Professor A.S. Ryzhinsky, Doctor of Art, Rector of the Gnesin’s Russian Academy of Music, visited the Moscow Theological Academy.
The MThA Rector and the Rector of the Gnessin’s Russian Academy of Music signed a partnership contract. The parties agreed on cooperation in the fields of professional training of choral performance and developing of educational and scientific-methodological projects. It is aimed to create beneficial conditions for academies in order to have an experience exchange, consultations and methodological support, which help to develop a liturgical singing repertoire and a secular choral repertoire. Under the agreement, it is planned to hold joint scientific-practical conferences and educational events. The cooperation will help institutions to work effectively in the implementation of their educational programs.
The event was attended by Hegumen Lazar (Gnativ), Dean of the Chorister’s Faculty of the Moscow Theological Academy, and Professor N.I. Efimova, Doctor of Art, Deputy Dean of the Church Singing Art Faculty.
In 2019, the Gnesin’s Russian Academy of Music celebrated its 75th anniversary. As part of planned activities, the Academy organised a festival of contemporary Russian church music dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Deacon Sergiy Trubachev. The United Choir of the Chorister’s Faculty under the conduct Mikhail, a graduate of the Gnessin’s Academy, took part at the performance.
Deacon Sergiy Trubachev contributed to the church singing of the XXth century. It is difficult to overestimate his importance as a successor of a Russian church music tradition. He was the Gnesin’s teacher, a famous conductor and composer, whose name is forever connected with St. Sergius’s Lavra and the Moscow Theological Academy.
