Theological department hold a public meeting
On December 13 th a public meeting was hold at the Theological department where they gave a report on academic work in 2019. A researcher of the department Anatoliy Parpare gave a presentation in which he pointed out that in this year they have published more than 60 scientific articles, took part in more than 40 workshops and conferences. Also 2 issues of a scholarly journal “Bible and Christian antiquity” and 2 issues of “Theological questions” came out.
Pavel Sizintsev (scientific advisor – N. K. Gavryushin) and priest Sergey Denisyuk (scientific advisor – P. K. Dobrotsvetov, associate professor) successfully defended their candidate thesises. Scientific seminars on “Consensus partum”, “What is in the chalice at the Liturgy of Pre-sanctified Gifts?”, “For and against of a synthetic theory” were held in the Moscow Theological Academy and the Purification Theological Seminary. Workshops on thesis requirements were given to Bachelor and Master students. An international theological conference in honour of 40 th death anniversary of archpriest Geroge Florovsky (1893-1979) is due to on December 23 rd 2019.
Associate professor Dobrotsvetov gave a report on academic work of the School of patristic researches and presented some scientific works. The members of the School are professors, associate professors, lecturers, assistants and post-graduates. The School also hold an International scientific and theological conference “Methodological issues of theological and patristic researches” on May 17 th in the Purification Theological Seminary. And it is about to take place on December 26 th in the Moscow Theological Academy.
The following books became prize winners in a contest “Enlightenment by book” in 2019: “Patrology Church writings before a church council in Nikea” Vol. 1 (group of authors – Sidorov, Dobrotsvetov, Fokin; edited by Illarion (Alfeev), Metropolitan of Volokolam), “Saint fathers and Church teachers” Vol. 1, “Church writings before a church council in Nikea” Vol. 2 and “The Golden Age of patristic writings”. These works were published as a result of a joint work of Professor Fokin, Professor Sidorov, Associate Professor Dobrotsvetov together with editors and translators. Members of The Scientific School published 26 articles, took part in 18 national and international conferences as well as successfully defended their qualification papers and Master’s thesises.
Publication of a new patristic volume for Bachelor students and a book “Venerable John Kassian of Rome. Dogmatic, polemic and ascetic works” from a series of “All patristic writings in Russian” is about to come out.
A scientific and theological journal “Diacrisis” is in process. The presentation of some new books is about in the end of January 2020. The Scientific School is organizing a conference “Life, work and spiritual heritage of the Moscow Theological Academy graduates and Nikon (Roszhdestvenskiy), monk of St. Trinity-Sergius Laura (for his 100 th death anniversary) on February 20 th 2020 and a workshop “Theological basis and patristic evidence of a church prayer for the dead”.
The following conferences are scheduled in 2020: the third scientific and practical conference “Methodological issues of theological and patristic researches” (in September) and “Mystical theology. Mystic. Mysticism.” (in December). After discussing presentations members of the department accepted reports and a work plan of scientific schools.
