Bishop Theodorite performed the Rite of forgiveness

On March 6, the Holy Church conducts the Rite of forgiveness. This ancient tradition has known since the first centuries of Christianity, when the Egyptian monks said farewell to to each other and went into the desert for the Holy Forty Days.

However, forgiving your neighbor is a sure path to salvation. The Lord Jesus Christ said:

«For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15).

On March 6, the Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite, Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy, performed vespers with the Rite of forgiveness at the Intercession Academic Church.

At the end of Vespers, Bishop Theodorite read a prayer before the beginning of the Lent, and then addressed an assembly with his archpastoral word.

At the end of the sermon, Bishop Theodorite asked teachers, students and academic staff for forgiveness.

Then the teachers and students of the theological school asked each other for forgiveness in order to start the Great Lent with peace in their souls.
