The Academy celebrated the Dormition of the Mother of God

Today, the academic community celebrates the feast of the Mother of God that precedes the future resurrection of the entire human race and liberation from the bonds of death. Completing Her earthly journey and ascending to the Heavenly Kingdom, Virgin Mary does not leave us and continues to show Her motherly care and love.

Her example tells us that death has no power over those who follows Christ and strives to meet Him. Having joined the Kingdom of Christ, She invites everyone on this day to enter into the joy of the Lord. 

On August 27, Archimandrite Hilarion (Forkavets) officiated an All-Night Vigil co-service by the academic clergy at the Intercession Church of the Moscow Theological Academy. 

Singing the troparions, the academic clergy solemnly carried out the Shroud of the Most Holy Theotokos from the altar. Having placed her in the center of the church they sang praises to the Mother of God and performed the rite of the Burial.

After the Great Doxology, the clergy, students, teachers and parishioners of the church went on a procession with the Shroud, singing glorification hymns to the Mother of God and Her Assumption.

The next day, on August 28, Archimandrite Venedikt (Knyazev) celebrated the Divine Liturgy co-served by the academic clergy at the Intercession Academic Church. 

After the Sacrament Verse, Hieromonk Damian (Voronov) delivered a sermon.

After the dismissal, the clergy sang the glorification at the Shroud of the Mother of God.
