Academy prayerfully honored memories of the Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian and Saint Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia

On October 8 and 9, the Academy prayerfully honored memories of the Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian and Saint Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.

Today the Holy Church honors the day of John the Theologian’s repose who was the most beloved Savior's disciple. Being a young man, he left his home in response to John the Baptist’s preaching the Messiah. He was one of three apostles who witnessed the Glory of Christ’s Transfiguration on Mount Tabor. It was he who laid on the Savior's chest at the Last Supper in the Zion Upper Room, and then the only one who did flee seeing the Cross of the Savior. By the end of his earthly days St. John preached love that is a base of Theology. This day is especially important for the Moscow Theological Academy students. St. John the Apostle is a patron saint of theological science and theologians.

On October 9, it is also a day of honour of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. As John the Theologian, the saint loved Christ with all his heart and did his best to preach the Good News. His path was difficult and thorny, but his love for the Lord turned out to be stronger than a fear of enemies.

On October 8, Archimandrite Platon (Igumnov) headed the all-night vigil at the Academic Church of the Intercession of the Theotokos.

On October 9, the Bishop of Zvenigorod Theodorite celebrated the Divine Liturgy, co-served by the clergy of the Intercession Academic Church. After reading the Holy Gospel, he addressed an assembly with a sermon.

Hegumen Daniil (Vasilenko) said his sermon after the sacrament verse. He highlighted the importance of forgiveness and love.

After the Liturgy, Bishop Theodorite together with the clergy of the Intercession Church performed the doxology to the Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian and Saint Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, and congratulated the parishioners.

После этого владыка ректор поздравил молящихся с праздником.

Chanting performed by a male choir led by Hieromonk Nestor (Volkov) and a female choir led by Ksenia Alekseeva.
