The Academy prayerfully honored the memory of St. Mary of Egypt and read the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete
On Thursday of the fifth week of the Great Lent Church gives an opportunity to its faithful to hear the inspired poetic work of Archbishop Andrew of Crete again. The Great Canon helps to immerse in prayerful reflection and to see like in a mirror the images that are close to person’s heart.
Being compiled on the texts of the Holy Scriptures, the Great Canon actualizes the Word of God for men, nourishes the soul with divine meanings and encourages the heart to repentance.
Today, the Holy Church also honors the memory of St. Mary of Egypt, who lived in V century. The life of this amazing ascetic can leave few people indifferent. Indeed, through the story of her life, does shine the light of hope and inexhaustible love for God and everyone who is in despair and great sadness will find consolation. Just as the Lord once stretched out His hands and saved her from the abyss of sin, He stretches out His hands to everyone who seeks to be saved and to be with God.
On April 17, teachers and students of the Moscow Theological Academy gathered at the Intercession Academic Church to read the Great Penitential Canon and honor the memory of St. Mary. The Metropolitan of Tallinn and All Estonia Eugene led service co-served by the academic clergy.
