On September 22, 2022, as a part of \"Academic Readings at the Faculty of Church Singing Art of the Moscow Theological Academy\", Professor Valentina N. Kholopova gave a public lecture on \"The specifics of the baroque music content (on the example of J.S. Bach\u2019s works). The lecturer is an art history and an author of a number of monographs, textbooks and teachers\u2019 guides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valentina N. Kholopova spoke about emotional, illustrative and symbolic components, which might help to comprehend a semantic depth of Bach\u2019s music. She illustrated her observations with musical pieces. The topic aroused genuine interest among the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the lecture, Hegumen Lazar, Dean of the Church Singing Art Faculty, pointed out on the methodology used by V.N. Kholopova that can be used (with certain reservations) for comprehending and interpreting church, especially composed, music. This way poses a number of important questions and problems for teachers and students in terms of emotional and spiritual principles, a role of emotions, symbolic thinking in prayer etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hegumen Lazar expressed his gratitude to V.N. Kholopova on behalf of teachers, mentors and students of the Moscow Theological Academy.
