December 24, the Greek Christian literature profile of the Philology Department at the Moscow Theological Academy organised a conference \"Monastic Theology and the Humanistic Philosophy on the Example of the XI century Byzantine Authors\". <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hegumen Dionisiy (Shlenov), Professor of the Philology Department at the Moscow Theological Academy, started the conference with a report on \"St. Nikita Stifatus and Michael Psellus\u2019s views on virtues\". In their doctrines, they use similar images from philosophical and patristic traditions, as well as geometric comparisons (circle, line). Stifatus and Psellus\u2019s positions allow a deeper understanding of a state of Byzantine theological and secular culture in the XI century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was an encyclopedist and wrote on all types of knowledge including theological works. The research examined various points of view on his theological heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nakaidze, a post-graduate student at the Philology Department, finished the session with his report on \u201cSt. Nikita Stifatus in Georgian traditions and \u201cAbout the Firstborn\u201d, an unknown work attributed to Mikhail Psellus\u201d. The report emphasized that Byzantine writing, especially the heritage of the holy fathers and philosophers, had a great influence on Georgian theological literature.
